  • Maker Faire Rome 2013. The European Edition.October 14, 2013

    After some days from the Maker Faire European Edition, held in Rome, we want to share our experience there. New releases like Intel Galileo or Arduino TRE, a lot of very interesting projects from worldwide Makers, 3D Printers and companies involved in the Maker Movement.

    The First Day, 4th October, was the Educational Day. Many schools and high schools from Rome and surroundings came to the Maker Faire in order to be closer to new technologies. Something like Science Fiction they saw in films, became into reality in the Faire. Robots, LED panels, dresses with animated lights... and even helmets and SuperHero costumes were some of most visited booths there. We showed them the LittleBits Kit and Makey Makey, as well as a robot-speaker which danced the songs played by itself...

    The weekend was awesome, exhibitions, workshops, new releases, very long queues in the street to attend the event... The Maker Faire European Edition was to be a success... and it was. The results: 35,000 visitors in 3 days.

    We were prepared for that and we did all in our hands to show people some case studies to use Open Hardware. We showed our last releases of wireless communication like 3G shield or GPRS+GPS Shield for Arduino and Raspberry Pi, as well as Waspmote, our Wireless Sensor Platform. This event was perfect to bring closer this new technology to the makers. People was also very interested in the e-Health Platform, a shield that can change the philosophy of medical appliances. The possibility of body monitoring can be applied in small hospitals... or in Digital Art performances... You can do everything in your hand with the results you receive in your Arduino... and people were fascinated with that.

    In this weekend we were able to meet many people in person who we had met by email or through the Internet: Arduino Team, people from SeeedStudio, Snootlab, EXP, LinkSprite, Watterott... and Josef Prusa! I think he was one of the most photographed in the event due to the high attending of 3D Printer fans!!
    We were also able to know the new releases from Intel and Arduino: Intel Galileo and Arduino TRE.

    Intel Galileo is the new generation board developed in collaboration with Arduino, with the quality of Intel processors and the high community of Arduino, Intel Galileo is going to be a nice competitor for the Linux Embedded Devices.

    Arduino TRE will be released in Spring 2014. Developed in collaboration with BeagleBoard Team, Arduino TRE will be a strong competitor for Raspberry Pi, video/audio outputs, full compatible with Arduino shields, joining two big communities: Arduino and Linux.

    We are eager to wait for the next Maker Faire European Edition. Thanks and Congratulations to the Organization, Arduino Team and everyone involved in the event.

  • Waspmote: The Internet of Things Platform arrives at Campus Party (UK)August 12, 2013

    Campus Party arrives in London for the first time. The goal is to bring together 10,000 participants from all over Europe from the 2nd to the 7th of September 2013. Hosted at the O2 Arena in London, there will be a sensational infrastructure to welcome Campuseros, who will participate in 500+ hours of content distributed between conferences, workshops, competitions and activities across 20 themes; all at Campus Party Europe in London.

    In order to expand the knowledge about the Internet of Things, through our Open Sensor Platform, Waspmote, and the DIY philosophy, Cooking Hacks will contribute in this event with several keynotes and a Workshop. You can see the event schedule to not miss anything in the Campus Party.

    On Wednesday 4th, at 10AM in Michelangelo Stage, Jorge Casanova and David Bordonada will start with a keynote about the evolution of the DIY movement in 3D Printing, and the Community around it. They will also talk about the 3D Printer released in Cooking Hacks and how each part of it works: from electronics to the hot-end.

    The same day, at 9PM in Leonardo Stage, David Bordonada and Jorge Casanova will do an exhibition of the e-Health Sensor Platform with live examples of each sensor developed for this platform. We also show the mobile application using the WiFi module and we will invite the attendants to test them in the stage.

    On Thursday 5th, at 4PM in Workshop1 Stage, Jorge Casanova and David Bordonada will do a workshop to show how to use Waspmote with some sensors, like the accelerometer or PIR sensors, and how to create a wireless sensor network using ZigBee and several Waspmotes. Learn how to enter in the Internet of Things with this versatile platform.

    The same day, at 8PM in Leonardo Stage, Jorge Bergua will give a speech about Smart Cities. He will talk about the use of Waspmote and how to deal with traffic and parking management, noise and atmospheric pollution as the major challenges to minimise emissions and avoid unnecessary journeys and respiratory diseases, improving the quality of life and health.

  • Internet of Things and 3D Printer Summer CampJune 11, 2013

    From 4th to 7th July, there will be a big event in Zaragoza (Spain), the Internet of Things and 3D Printing Summer Camp. It will include Open Hardware keynotes, biometrics sensors, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Waspmote workshops, a 3D Printer course and a Hackathon for Makers!!


    The sessions are free and they are organized by Cooking Hacks (Libelium's Open Hardware Division), with the collaboration of Zaragoza City Council and the most important development groups of the city: PĂşlsar, D-Labs, Arduteka, CADesigns, etc.

    In addition, the best projects made during the Hackathon will be awarded with a 3D Printer and a grant in Cooking Hacks.

  • Open Book on "Low Cost 3D Printing" from ICTPMay 10, 2013

    Our friends from ICTP, including Marco Zennaro (from WSNBlog), have launched an Open Book: "Low-cost 3D Printing for Science, Education and Sustainable Development"

    The Science Dissemination Unit (SDU) of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has organized the 1st International Workshop, to be held at the ICTP (Trieste, Italy) from May 6 to 8, 2013.

    They introduce this Open Book, downloadable in low and high-resolution, as follows:

    "Low-cost, three-dimensional (3D) desktop printing, although still in its infancy, is rapidly maturing, with seemingly unlimited potential. The hope is that this cutting-edge 3D technology will open new dimensions to science and education, and will make a marked impact in developing countries. This book gives a reasonable, first overview of current research on 3D printing. It aims to inspire curiosity and understanding in young scholars and new generations of scientists to motivate them to start building up their own 3D printing experiences and to explore the huge potential this technology provides –with the final goal of putting learning literally in their hands."

  • Cooking Hacks comes back to TechShop in May!!May 3, 2013

    Cooking Hacks will be in San Francisco, CA (USA) in May. In this case, we will attend the Maker Faire Bay Area (May 18 & 19) and we are preparing a great Hacking Week in TechShop to show how our platforms are used in the Internet of Things. From 17th to 23rd May, we will give workshops in TechShop Menlo Park, where many people know us already, and we will extend our visit with a Hack Weekend in TechShop San Jose. As the previous workshops, they will be attended by a high community of makers in the West Coast. Arduino, Waspmote, e-Health, GPRS and... many surprises!!! Take the opportunity to talk to Jorge and David, from Cooking Hacks Team, to know more about us.

  • e-Health Sensor Platform: The winner project of X-ProjectJanuary 10, 2013

    Our last release, e-Health Sensor Platform wins the DFRobot competition, "One X-Project, Win 3D Printer".

    Cooking Hacks Team, specially Luis Martin and Ahmad Saad from IT Department, wishes to thank DFRobot Team for their initiative.
